Lounging

On Sunday I spent most of the day doing homework. Tulip kitty was bored, so she spent most of the day sleeping. Later that night I was sitting on the couch watching TV. I happened to look up and saw this. I love her little feet hanging out. Stripy!

Sometimes you're the punk. Sometimes you get punked.

Tulip decided to sleep in her kitty bed last night. When the alarm when off this morning, I was in no mood to get up. I hit the snooze button and plopped my head back down. It just so happened that my arm was sticking straight out off the edge of the bed. When kitty heard me stirring, she got up and attempted to jump up onto the bed. Instead, she jumped right into my knuckles and fell back to the floor. I punched her right in the nose. Or I should say, she punched herself in the nose on my hand. It must have really smarted, because she kept sneezing and shaking her head. Poor kitty! When she finally made it up on the bed, I rubbed her little face and head. She got over it. I still felt like a creep though, even though it was obviously not on purpose.

I know, I know. "Why you gotta punch a blind cat?"

Feeling the love

Tulip woke up when the alarm clock went off this morning. She walked up to my head and started licking my face. Then she rubbed her little head all over it, purring the whole time. Awwwww. When I got up, she sat on the bed and waited for the "elevator". I picked her up and put her on the floor. She waited patiently for breakfast, which she inhaled while I was making coffee. When I went to the couch with my coffee to watch the news, she came over to love up on me some more. Now why can't every morning start off like that?

Sit video

As I mentioned before, I'm teaching Tulip kitty how to sit on command. Here's a video of her working on her new trick. She's off to a pretty good start.

Spying on the neighbors

For someone with no eyes, she sure looks out the window a lot.

Just a thought

It occurred to me that maybe this would be a more appropriate kitty for this site as opposed to the one in my previous post:

=^- -^=

I love you Tu!

Tiger dream

Last night I had a dream about a tiger. Not a Little Tiger, but a full-sized one. This tiger was roaming around my palatial house (it was a dream after all). The tiger was beautiful and very sweet, except for every once in a while when it felt like slashing things up with its giant claws. I remember at one point the tiger was walking around with Eve’s footstool in its mouth. I really liked the tiger but had to be extremely careful of handling it and getting it into its cage before it ate any of the other pets. Now I wonder where such thoughts would come from…

Punk gets grumpy

Man, kitty was in a mood yesterday. Eve kept her up all night the night before. She was in the office working, so of course Ms. Nosey couldn't come to bed. She had to sit in there with her all night. At one point during the night Tulip decided she was hungry. Eve wouldn't feed her, so kitty punked her but jumping up and biting her shoulder. RUDE! She was equally grumpy when I work her up at 8 in the morning. She heard me tossing and turning and bit my hand. I'm getting really tired of having an open wound on the back of my hand all the time. Then she scratched me while I was getting her food. Apparently I was taking too long. She was scratchy and bitey all day. We were out of the house for most of the day. I was really hoping she would be in a better mood when we got home. She had all day to sleep. No. She was still grumpy. She ended up going to sleep in her giant kitty bed. What a brat! Thank goodness she was in a better mood this morning. She even jumped up on the couch, stuck her nose in my face to get a kiss, then ran away. I thought I was about to get a bite (it could really go either way). She can be sweet. If she feels like it...

Kitty is learning a trick

Our previous cat was a pretty cool guy. He was very interactive with us. I was even able to teach him to sit on command. It's way too funny to see a cat do it, because generally they don't even acknowledge your presence. I decided to see if I could teach Tulip to do it too.

We've been working on this for 3 days in a row now. At night I get out one of those Greenies treats that Jan sent. Kitty really likes them. I squat down and call her name to get her attention. Once she's paying attention I let her smell the treat (since she can't see it). Then she's really paying attention. I hold the treat over her head, close to her. As she starts to reach for it, I move it toward her back. This gets her to put her head back and eventually gets her into a sitting position. While I'm moving the treat back, I tell her to sit. When she actually sits, she gets the treat. She's done it successfully on all 3 attempts. I just need to get her to associate "sit" with sitting down and getting a treat. When she gets fairly proficient at it we'll post a video.

This is a little trickier with Tulip, since she has to smell the treat. A sighted cat will look at it and naturally sit back a little bit easier. It still works though. Try it out on your cat!

Um. Your spots are showing...

Here's Tulip going wild on her treehouse. Nice pose! While she's up there she gets herself all whipped up and starts thrashing her tail around. When she hits herself with it, I swear she thinks there's another cat up there with her. She goes absolutely crazy. One of these days I'll get around to editing some video of her up there showing off.

Present from Jan - update

We have video after all! When I downloaded all the files off of the camera, I found this. The camera shut itself off because it was full, so I missed her running away with the Greenie at the end. It's better than nothing though.

Present from Jan

Yesterday Eve called to tell me that Tulip received a present in the mail. It was from my sister-in-law Jan. Jan gave kitty some fun toys when she and my brother were visiting last fall, so I was curious to see what it was. I told Eve we should videotape Tulip opening her package.

Last night I set up the camera and put the package down on the floor. Eve coaxed kitty over to it with her birdie toy. Once she realized the package was there she was smelling it, rubbing her head on it, pawing at it. It was adorable. Then Eve helped her open it up. Tu was running around, jumping in and out of the picture. At one point she was in mid-air. It was hilarious. Her present was a package of Greenies which are kitty treats. Eve took one out and put it on the floor. Kitty grabbed it and ran off with it, stopping to chomp it down in 2 bites.

I was SO thrilled we got all of that on camera. We could hardly wait to watch it. Eve came over and I hit Play on the camera. Only to realize that I had never pressed Record. We missed the entire thing. *siiiiiiiiigh* That's about right.

I wonder if that ever happens on movie sets?

What's in a name?

I have a habit of making up nicknames for people. The general rule seems to be that the more I like you, the more nicknames you have.

With that in mind, here is a list of Tulip kitty's assorted aliases. Mostly we call her Tu, but among other things she is also known as:

Twolips / Twowips
Toot / Toots
Tutu
Miss Kitty / Kitty
Punk / Punky / Punk Rocker
Squints
Stripes
Sweets
Girl
Little Tiger
Tiggy
Fangy / Fangy Fangums
Head Bangy

Kitty gets lonely

We've noticed that every time we leave the house for an extended period, Tulip kitty drags Wyatt Bear out. If we've been gone for a while, we usually come home to find Wyatt laying in the hallway, or by the closets in between the bedroom and the bathroom. All we can figure is that kitty gets lonely and pulls Wyatt out of her bed to keep her company. Poor kitty gets lonely! She's so used to having at least one of us home with her.

"Sometimes you're my only friend, Wyatt!"

How a blind cat looks out the window

I'm going straight to hell for laughing at this.
